Our unrivalled network of 130 staff across both countries understands the sectoral, geographical and cultural aspects of business success in China, as well as the key business issues that British companies face. Led by the chief executive in London, the senior management brings together this expertise across a number of business units.

 
Matthew Rous - Chief Executive – Matthew joined CBBC in September 2017 after 26 years in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office working as a career diplomat, most recently as British Consul-General in Guangzhou. Matthew read Modern and Medieval Languages at Churchill College, Cambridge, subsequently studied Mandarin Chinese at SOAS, and is a graduate of the Major Projects Leadership Academy at the Oxford University, Saïd Business School.

Rob Ismay - Chief Oprerating Officer - Rob joined CBBC in August 2013 and became COO in January 2018.  With a long background in finance, and the qualification of Charter Certified Accountant, Rob has experience in a variety of fields including accountancy practice, financial services (Friends Provident), Formula One racing (McLaren), travel and leisure (Airtours).  Rob has worked in a number of senior roles and more recently as Chief Executive at an international event management company.

Lise Bertelsen – Executive Director, Public Affairs. With more than 20 years’ experience in the China market, Lise has worked with a wide variety of companies, organisations and government departments across a broad range of sectors, both in China and the UK.  Lise has management responsibility for strategic projects, events, government relations and CBBC’s Premium member programme.  Lise graduated from London University’s School of Oriental and African Studies with a BA Hons Degree in Chinese.
Lise Bertelsen – Executive Director, Public Affairs. With more than 20 years’ experience in the China market, Lise has worked with a wide variety of companies, organisations and government departments across a broad range of sectors, both in China and the UK. Lise has management responsibility for strategic projects, events, government relations and CBBC’s Premium member programme. Lise graduated from London University’s School of Oriental and African Studies with a BA Hons Degree in Chinese.
Claire Urry - Executive Director, Service Delivery. Claire leads on the delivery of our work with the Department for International Trade (DIT).   A Mandarin speaker, she graduated from Leeds University in 1991. She has been actively involved in doing business with China for over 25 years and while with CBBC has worked across a range of sectors including financial services, and food/drink sectors. She retains a close interest in the Agri-tech sector.

Jeff Astle, Managing Director - China Operations. Jeff has a wealth of business, management consultancy and research experience, and his 20-year career includes trade and product marketing, business analysis, market analysis, international business development, and financial management. He has 15 years’ experience working in the Asia-Pacific region, in the education, media, entertainment, and sports & leisure sectors. Before Shanghai he worked in London, Hong Kong, Singapore and Shenzhen.
Jeff Astle, Managing Director - China Operations. Jeff has a wealth of business, management consultancy and research experience, and his 20-year career includes trade and product marketing, business analysis, market analysis, international business development, and financial management.
