The Belt and Road Initiative

From Lord Sassoon's (CBBC Chairman) foreword to CBBC's 3rd and most recent report on Belt and Road

Since the launch of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) in late 2013, CBBC has been carefully following its development.  We have been assessing the trends and opportunities, reporting on the BRI projects that are up and running in many countries, and facilitating high-level engagement between Chinese and UK stakeholders.

The BRI vision is becoming a reality, and the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in Beijing in May 2017 demonstrated China’s ambition for BRI, with world leaders, finance and trade ministers, and major multinational businesses, including a UK delegation, in Beijing to discuss BRI development and co-operation.

CBBC’s third BRI report follows one produced in partnership with the British Embassy in 2015 which outlined the key BRI routes, their links to China’s provinces and to sectors of the economy.  I had the privilege of personally presenting this report to President Xi during his State Visit to the UK. Our second report was a UK-China BRI Case Study report, in partnership with Tsinghua University and launched at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing in 2016.

As BRI develops further, CBBC will continue to support all UK business to identify and develop more BRI business opportunities between the UK and China. To read CBBC's three reports, see below.
